Mr. Pink, ‘Bite It’, a big tune from the dance floors of 1994, rereleased via Violent Drum Recordings digitally on November 27th 2020.

Mr. Pink, ‘Bite It’ produced by label owner Matt Frost alongside DJ Gavin Humphreys, turned out to be a one-off release and the fourth in the series on Violent Drum.

Inspired by the dark and driving energetic flash of acid house and techno that encapsulated the dance floors at the time by artists like Jeff Mills, Dave Clark, Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram and Mark Broom, Frost and Humphreys took this inspiration pushing all the analog levels into the red as Mr. Pink bangs hard with it’s 909 minimal bouncy acid back drop and twisted Detroit stabs.

‘Bite it’, although a one-off release, was an unexpected hit that made it into the charts and DJ record boxes across the globe and split dance music genres. Legendary Detroit DJ’s Ron Trent, Stacey Pullen and Kenny Larkin to Euro giants Laurent Garnier, Ian Pooley and Sven Vath all played this record.

Matt Frost: “We adopted the name ‘Mr. Pink’, from the outcast gang member of the film Reservoir Dogs. The idea behind ‘Bite It’ was to create our own slice of British techno to see how it would stand up among the big US and European techno tunes of the time; we were pleasantly surprised by the reaction and the DJ’s that supported it.”

Violent Drum’s output connected with dance music lovers worldwide; tracks made it onto compilation albums, featured in the charts and sets of the top DJ’s from all over the world. DJ’s such as Colin Dale, Ninja Tune’s Matt Black, Joey Beltram, Billy Nasty, Fabio Paras, Leftfield, Dave Angel, Darren Emerson, Carl Cox, DJ Three, Sasha & Digweed, Terry Farley and the man everyone looked to at the time, Mr. Andrew Weatherall, regularly played Violent Drum vinyl.

The complete works of Violent Drum Recordings will be rereleased from August 2020.
